Perth Glory and Fowler in China for pre-season tour

Former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler and his new A-League club Perth Glory are in China for a pre-season tour.

The club left for China on Friday and will now complete a 12-day stay which will undertake a friendly with Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda as well as regular training sessions.

Glory coach Dave Mitchell said that Fowler would be involved in most of the work but said it was important not to overload an ageing body.

"In China he'll be the main part of the shape and working on the team tactics,'' Mitchell said.

"We've got to be careful with Robbie that we don't overwork him.

"He's done most of the things and he's had a bit of a rest in the last couple of days which is good.

"The good thing about Robbie is he's very level-headed, he's not a big head.

"He's been a world star but has got two feet firmly planted on the ground.

"He demands respect from what he's done in the game and people respect him.

"He's a good lad so it's good to have that character in the side.''
