Pellegrini: Man City need Swansea's Bony to win title

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini admits he requires another striker in order to win this season's Premier League title.

The reigning champions are honing in on the £27million signing of Swansea City's Wilfried Bony and Pellegrini indicates having another quality attacker is paramount in defending the premiership they won in 2013/14.

"I think it's important you have the squad you think you need," he said. "Last season we had four strikers, and the four strikers were useful to win the title.

"You cannot say that because you are bringing in another striker you are going to win.

"But in the first part of the season it's important to analyse and I assure you that we need a fourth striker that we are bringing in.

"If that striker will help we suppose we are going to be a strong squad with him."

Pellegrini added: "The injuries were part of the decision yes, of course, because we had too many injuries. It's normal that strikers are more injured than other players especially here in England where you need strong footballers and its physical football.

"That's why I said last year, and this year also, we need a fourth striker. And of course injuries are one of the reasons why he (Bony) should come."

City have experienced some injury worries with their trio of strikers this season and adding Bony to the current stock of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic will only enhance their chances of securing a third title in four seasons.
