Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway wants to make a new midfield playmaker signing.
The Daily Mail says Palace will move to sign either Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll or Barry Bannan from Aston Villa as Holloway looks for reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Spurs would only allow Carroll to leave on a season-long loan.
The other option is Villa's Scotland international Bannan who Paul Lambert is willing to sell at the right price.
