New England Revolution have secured the services of American midfielder/forward Lee Nguyen.
The 25-year old was picked up by the Revs after being waived by Vancouver Whitecaps last week who he joined via a weighted lottery in December.
The acquisition of Nguyen, who has represented the USA on three occasions, is one that surprised New England head coach Jay Heaps who admitted that he did not think the former PSV Eindhoven and Randers man would be available.
"We did a little bit of reconnaissance and found out that it was just a matter of a numbers crunch up there in Vancouver. So we want to make sure that we give him an opportunity to succeed.""We were a little shocked to see his availability," said Heaps. "You want to do your due diligence and make sure there wasn't a reason [he was waived] or there wasn't anything that was blaring.
