Newcastle striker Wilson reveals Ramsdale wind-up penalty tactics

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has spoken about a brilliant exchange he had with Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale.

The centre forward was recalling an incident when the two were waiting for a penalty to be called by VAR.

Wilson was in the mood to get the ball in the back of the net, but VAR was checking all the replays to confirm the decision.

He told The Players Podcast: “I remember we had a penalty at home against Arsenal. Basically the penalty was awarded, but whilst the VAR check was going on, [Aaron] Ramsdale came up to me and was like 'Cal, I know where you're going! I know you're going this side!'

“Then he was walking after me, saying: 'Why are you walking away from me, come back here!' and he was literally walking me down from the box. I must've ended up towards the halfway line and out to the left.

“I'm thinking 'this guy is following me', and then he goes 'I know you're taking it!', laughing away. He was trying to mess with my head, but I blocked it out. I would've loved to have had that penalty.

“I would've loved to have had that and my celebration would be to run at him and just stand in front of him."
