Newcastle skipper Lascelles: I've been carrying injury since Boxing Day

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles insists his hamstring feels fine after he returned to action in Saturday's win over Cardiff City.

Lascelles says he has been carrying the injury since Boxing Day.

Toon are mired in an injury crisis at the moment, Federico Fernandez,Paul Dummett, Mo Diame and Jonjo Shelvey sidelined.

Lascelles was expected to join that list after injuring his hamstring against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, in which he was substituted shortly after coming on.

"I had been feeling it since before the Liverpool game and felt it the other night," United skipper Lascelles said.

"It happened a few times in training, too. We are not in a position to lose more players given we have a few already injured like Mo and Jonjo.

"We had a big game coming up and we needed bodies, so I decided to come off at Blackburn. I played [against Cardiff] and didn't feel it once. It's fine."
