Newcastle signing Barnes quickly impressed by Howe

Newcastle United summer signing Harvey Barnes knows what he is walking into at the St. James' Park club.

Barnes has signed on the dotted line after completing a big money move from Leicester City.

Despite relegation with the Foxes last season, Barnes is looking onwards and is eager to play Champions League football with Newcastle.

“Tough! I played in that Boxing Day game, and you got a taste of it then," says Barnes of playing the Magpies last term.

“If you switch off for 20 minutes, it's game over. On the flip side, playing in that, I'm sure it's amazing.

“You look at it and see how the team was playing, and you are thinking it would be great to be part of it. When I heard of the interest and knew it was serious, it was a club I definitely wanted to be a part of.

“I can tell from working with the manager, just for a couple of days, that he's the kind of manager you really want to give that extra yard for. I saw that from the outside, every time they win games, they were all in the changing room together for a picture - not just the players, but the staff - and it looks like a great environment. Everybody wins together, loses together and I think that will come from the gaffer.

“All those wonderful things, watching on last year, and the ambition for this year. The style of play will suit me as well. They are intense, physical. You have to work hard, the lads have told me that, but the rewards are there. It was an easy decision to come here."
