Newcastle United are hoping to finalise a loan deal for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The England star is out of favour at City and will not be selected by manager Pep Guardiola, regardless of injuries or suspensions.
Phillips has seen defenders play in central midfield ahead of him this season.
Per The Telegraph, Newcastle believe they can wrap up a deal to bring him to Tyneside.
The Magpies are struggling in terms of squad depth, with the loss of Sandro Tonali to a ban also impacting their options.
Phillips does want to move, but wants to go where he will be playing regularly.
He may also wait to see if a club still in European competition wants to sign him.
