Newcastle United is no closer to being sold.

The club's supporters were hoping that a deal may have been done by now.

But TheChronicle suggests that owner Mike Ashley has not received an offer that is good enough - yet.

There were suggestions a deal was done with a consortium led by former Man United and Chelsea chief Peter Kenyon.

But the rumours were denied as premature.

Club sources told The Chronicle that it is up to the interested party, the Rockefeller Capital Management group, to make an offer that is up to standard.

Ashley had hoped to sell the club before the January transfer window, as it would allow manager Rafa Benitez to improve the team.
