Newcastle United must raise their bid to sign Swansea City fullback Neil Taylor.
While a £1m release clause exists in his contract, this merely gives clubs permission to discuss a move.
Sources in Wales have confirmed that should United want Taylor they would have to increase their offer for the player who was playing Conference football with Wrexham just 14 months ago.
A Swansea insider told the Evening Chronicle: "Swansea are going to have one unhappy young man on their hands when pre-season starts next week.
"Neil has loved his time at Swansea but the chance to join a huge club like Newcastle is a once- in-a-lifetime opportunity and he feels they are standing in his way."
