Newcastle United have made contact with the agents of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The Magpies were hoping to convince Dembele to sign for the club on a free transfer in the summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle did approach Dembele and his agent a few weeks ago with a proposal.

However, the player looks likely to pen a contract extension with Barcelona.

The club believe they have a total agreement with Dembele, and manager Xavi wants to keep the French winger in Barcelona.
