Newcastle United aren't pushing to sign Ajax midfielder Vurnon Anita.

The Journal says Tyneside sources say they were merely "testing the water" with the Dutch giants.

Newcastle's interest is genuine but they will not break the bank for the versatile 23-year-old and if Ajax stand firm on their £8million valuation United will look elsewhere.
