Newcastle defender Manquillo: Players must adjust to Bruce demands

Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo says the players must work harder to adjust to manager Steve Bruce's system this season.

Bruce has stuck with the use of wing-backs as Rafa Benitez did but has switched to two up-front.

"I don't think that a team's style should have to adapt to an individual player," Manquillo told the Evening Chronicle.

"I think it's we the players who have to fit into a system or formation.

"From the outset, he came here with this formation we have taken it on board perfectly and have been settling into it.

"I think that up to now it's been going well for us."

So what about fatherhood has it an impact on him?

"It changes everything for you because you now have a new responsibility in this world, and yes, it really was a wonderful experience.

"[He was born in Newcastle ] Yes! I'm happy in this city and circumstances dictated that he was born here.

"We could have had him in Spain but as I am so happy and at home here, this is where he was born, and so yes, I've now got a little Geordie."
