Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton can see Nicky Butt eventually moving into management.
Hughton is tipping Butt to follow Manchester United teammates Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce into coaching.
He said: "There are some players that go into management but generally they fall into management from wanting to still be involved in the game. Nicky has all the attributes, but he has to have the desire to want to do that. He is very knowledgeable. He earns respect in the changing room not only for what he has done but how he conducts himself now.
"You only have to watch Nicky train to know why he is still so strong at his age. He is a very tough individual.
"He was with a real tough group of players, the Nevilles, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, players who are still going. His background at United has enabled us to see what he is like every day in training."
