Newcastle boss Howe puts Anderson on notice for Cup tie

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says Elliot Anderson could see action against Carabao Cup opponents Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Howe admits he'll use the fixture to field several fringe players.

He said, "We have got a lot of players who are eager to play and show their qualities. We have a number of games this week. It's a very tight turnaround - three games in six days. We will try to make the right call for the team while acknowledging that we are desperate to progress and do well in the competition. I have got to make the right choices and get the balance right."

On Anderson, he added: "He will be one of a number of players pushing. When you look at the squad we picked for Southampton and the lads that didn't start - there is a lot of quality there, with a lot of players who have done well historically for the team.

"So I have got no doubt about their ability to do well if given the opportunity and I think it is a great position for me to be in."
