Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was pleased with Lewis Miley after victory over Fulham.
Miley scored in the win on Saturday.
Howe said: "It wasn't difficult to leave him out because I'm trying to protect him and do right by him, it's not a reflection on his performances. He's been incredible.
"He's 17 years old, he's played 90 minutes in many games and I'm very wary of the fact that we don't want to make a selfish decision with his physical performance.
"As I say, it didn't work out like that, he was thrust back into action, but I think he showed his professionalism. He was mentally ready then to play and he did really well."
