Newcastle boss Howe pleased with Barnes debut, young duo after Villa draw

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was pleased with Harvey Barnes' debut today against Aston Villa.

Barnes featured as Newcastle and Villa played out a 3-3 draw in Philadelphia.

Howe said: "I've seen nothing from Harvey yet behind the scenes. That was his first action with us.

"He flew in yesterday, we didn't train this morning so I was undecided whether to use him or not. I felt it was probably wise to get him his debut and his Newcastle journey started.

"He did very well considering he had that flight and didn't have his bearings with his team-mates. So he did very well."

Howe was also pleased with young pair Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley.

He said: "Good signs from both those players. I thought Elliot was very good in the first half.

"He was the architect behind our comeback at times and he had the quality to find the right path at the end. Lewis Miley is growing within the group.

"He has a great mentality towards the game, loves his football and he's a talented boy."
