Manchester United face a hefty fee to prise Dan Ashworth away from Newcastle United.
The Toon sporting director has welcomed United's interest and is keen to make the move.
ChronicleLive says Newcastle will demand a bumper fee to part with Ashworth - with a price of £10m being mentioned.
It's also suggested Newcastle directors Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben are aware Ashworth has spoken with United.
Should they lose Ashworth, Newcastle have confidence head of scouting Steve Nickson can step up as a caretaker ahead of finding a permanent replacement.
