Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes the team cannot win the Premier League with their current squad.

Neville was scathing in his criticism of the Red Devils after an opening day 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

United had a very short preseason, and were lethargic throughout the game.

Palace also benefited from a dubious penalty call and retake, but were deserved winners on the balance of play.

"We can talk about [Jadon] Sancho all we like but until United get a centre back who can run and defend one-on-ones they are never going to win the league," Neville told Sky Sports.

"They are never going to win the Premier League with that centre back pairing.

"They have to get a mobile, dominant centre half in alongside either Lindelof or Maguire."
