Manchester City are already planning their transfer business for the January window.
City were not able to land the top level midfielder they wanted this summer.
The club spent much of the summer chasing after Napoli midfielder Jorginho, but he ended up joining Chelsea instead.
Now the Manchester Evening News reports that a midfielder who can eventually take over from Fernandinho is a high priority.
The issue for City is their unwillingness to pay huge figures, such as the deals for Jorginho or Alexis Sanchez.
Ruben Neves from Wolves is an option, but he would cost over £60 million.
