Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly promise Eric Dier a holding midfield role to get him to the club.

The Telegraph is reporting that Mourinho is a massive fan of the Englishman and is willing to pay £40million to get him to Old Trafford.

Dier has seen his holding midfield role at White Hart Lane taken by Victor Wanyama and has featured mainly on the right side of Mauricio Pochettino's three-man defence.

As Spurs look at new defenders ahead of the summer market, Dier is believed to be considering his options with the lure of being a long-term replacement for veteran Michael Carrick an agreeable scenario.

However, the Daily Mail reports that Spurs have absolutely no intention of selling the 23-year-old to United are any other Premier League rival after nurturing him since he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in 2014.
