Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has hinted at the internal problems at Old Trafford.

United's poor start to the season came on the back of a summer racked by conflict between Mourinho and vice-chairman Ed Woodward over the latter's perceived failure to land the transfer targets demanded by the former to challenge for the title.

"I think that sometimes we comment what we see but we don't know what is behind the scenes," said Mourinho, speaking to beIN Sports. “That influences what we see and that is a fundamental thing.

"If I tell you, for example, that I consider one of the best jobs of my career to finish second with Manchester United in the Premier League, you say this guy is crazy, he won 25 titles and is saying second position was one of his best achievements in football.

"I keep saying this, because people didn't know what was going on behind the scenes."
