Mourinho and THREE Roma players sent off in Real Betis defeat

Jose Mourinho was sent off as Roma were thrashed 5-2 by Real Betis in their latest preseason friendly.

Betis opened the scoring on just four minutes through Rodri, in what was the first goal in their stadium in front of fans for 17 months, before being pegged back to 1-1 when Eldor Shomurodov scored for the visitors just before the half hour.

They weren't tied for long, however, as Nabil Fekir scored on the half-hour mark to restore his side's lead.

After the break both sides came out with intent and Gianluca Mancini put the Serie A side back on level terms from a corner before Alex Moreno scored Betis' third after a nice move from Borja Iglesias.

The LaLiga Santander side's third goal enraged the Roma players, however, as Moreno had forced the ball into the net with his hand, which went unnoticed by officials. If VAR were in use the goal would have been ruled out, but despite it being just a friendly, the opposition players reacted furiously. Lorenzo Pellegrini saw a second yellow card for protesting the goal, and Mourinho was also sent off for entering the field of play to give the referee a piece of his mind with one of his technical staff also given their marching orders.

Mancini was then issued a second yellow card of his own for striking Iglesias in the face, and minutes later Rick Karsdop also saw red after collecting a second booking for a challenge on Joaquin.

The floodgates subsequently opened as an eight-man Roma side couldn't contain the Betis attack, allowing Cristian Tello and Robert to score twice late on to complete the 5-2 thrashing.
