Monaco ace Cesc laments tech-obsessed football: Science, stats and GPS

AS Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas admits he's not enjoying today's football.

The former Barcelona, Chelsea and Arsenal star says he doesn't enjoy all the technology entering the game.

"Football has changed so, so much. The change started about four or five years ago and now it is quite remarkable. I've had different managers and it hasn't just happened with one or two. It happened with four or five. This thing has come to stay," the 34-year-old Spaniard tells Marca.

"There are automatic methods that many managers use. The manager basically tells you where to deliver the ball at any given moment. The players must be placed in their exact places. It's becoming a robotic game.

"Then there's the GPS. Many managers are obsessed with the numbers. If you do not reach these numbers, you are not ready to play, if you rest, you have to hold these numbers to maintain your level.

"Sometimes I'm a little old-fashioned in that regard. I have experienced great moments, great periods in my career, where without training I managed great seasons both physically and mentally. Now it seems that if you do not train, you can not be good. Everything is based on science, numbers and the GPS."
