Molby: Liverpool will benefit greatly from Sturridge return

Jan Molby believes that Liverpool will start clicking following the return of Daniel Sturridge from injury.

Sturridge is nearing a return to full fitness from the long term hip injury he had suffered during the latter part of last season and the fans are eagerly awaiting the comeback of their star striker.

Former Liverpool star Molby is also excited by the imminent return of Sturridge and he believes that the England international will bring out the best in the Reds' new summer recruits.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Molby stated: "One thing noticeable during the Bournemouth game was how so many of our midfielders wanted to be the centre of attention. It all got a bit muddled at times, with players far too close to one another and there not being much width, other than from Jordon Ibe and, from right-back, Nathaniel Clyne.

"Looking at it long term, I do think that when Daniel Sturridge comes back – and what a boost it is to have him close to fitness again – we could line up with a midfield diamond and two up front with Sturridge joining Christian Benteke.

"That would better suit the players we have. There's not quite the right balance at the moment, and there's certainly a tendency for Jordan Henderson and James Milner to do the same job. But because there's so much energy in the engine room, we've just about got away with it for now."
