Mehdi Abeid is hoping for a first team chance at Newcastle United this season.

The 19-year-old midfielder managed only two first-team appearances for the Magpies last season, in the FA Cup and League Cup.

He told the club's official website: "I have progressed a lot over the last year.

"I have worked with good people and played with good players and that has been very important for me as a young player.

"I hope to progress every day and continue to progress. I want to do more.

"I would like to keep up what happened last season. I need to keep up the same work, keep the same frame of mind, and hopefully will get to play more games."
