Mehdi Abeid delighted with rapid progress at Newcastle

Mehdi Abeid feels his game has rapidly improved since joining Newcastle United last year.

Abeid has two excellent mentors in Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "When you play and train alongside top players it helps you to get better.

"That's great for me because I am young and hopefully have a long career ahead of me, so playing with the kind of talented players that we have at the club can only benefit me."

"Hopefully, training with the first-team players will help me to improve, and it's up to me to show the manager that I have a long future ahead of me at the club.

"I want to stay here and fight for my place, and hopefully I will get my chance to show what I can do for Newcastle."
