Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has revealed that striker Papiss Cisse is a doubt for the upcoming Christmas period.

The 30-year-old limped off in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at St James' Park on Saturday and will struggle to get up for the next week of action due to a groin injury.

"We don't know regarding Papiss how long he'll be out for," said McClaren ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Everton.

"He's had a scan and he needs a second opinion to gauge the severity. So we still don't know, but he's a doubt for the weekend against Everton."
