Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has again questioned their move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Matthaus says an asking price of €100m is too steep for a player of Kane's age.

Although he describes him as "one of the best forwards in the world" and a "goal-scoring machine" in his opinion column for Sky Sports, the former Germany captain considers that Kane's age - he turns 30 at the end of this month - is a factor that deserves more attention.

"Kane is smart, runs well and has a good aerial game, but whether 100m is the right price for a player in his late 30s is debatable."

Matthaus added that if Bayern had prevented the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, a year ago, by renewing with the Polish striker, this operation would have been much less expensive for the club than the eventual purchase of another striker like Kane.

"If they had extended Lewandowski's [contract] to three years with a raise, that would have been cheaper than the last year of dissatisfaction plus the amount of money we have to spend on Kane now," he said.
