Manchester United plan to push through a deal for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Sun says in January, Spurs triggered a 12-month extension to Alderweireld's contract that was due to expire in the summer after talks broke down over a new long-term deal.
By taking up the option, the club activated a £25million release clause which kicks in at the start of this summer's transfer window.
United are desperate to bolster their defensive options and have identified the 30-year-old central defender as the man to slot straight into their starting line-up next season.
However, United are yet to make contact with Spurs about the experienced stopper who looks a dead cert to quit the club after a four-year stay.
