Man Utd midfielder McTominay impressing coaches in early preseason

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has already kicked off his preseason in Dubai.

McTominay has spent the last week at CB Performance in Dubai working on his strength, fitness and conditioning ahead of United's pre-season tour to Australia and has impressed owner and trainer Chris Bowman with his commitment and aptitude.

"I've been impressed with him so far," Bowman told the Manchester Evening News.

"He keeps on top of himself very well and he went away with Scotland as well so international players now don't really tend to even get the opportunity to rest too much."

With intensive drills in over 30 degree heat Bowman believes their sessions make a difference in preparing players for the season ahead and also prevent injury.

"There's a big focus on aerobic management, getting an aerobic base, the fitness side of things," Bowman said about the work McTominay has been doing. "They'll be tested in the first few days on their fitness to see where they're at and if they've kept on top of their fitness.

"Building that level of fitness now is important to stop or reduce the risk of potential injuries in the first few weeks of going back. Players have gone from not training every single day to the same intensity for the period of time so it can sometimes be a bit of a shock to the system where little niggles come that possibly are avoidable."
