Football fans have taken to social media to slam the behaviour of Manchester United supporters whom sung distasteful songs about Hillsborough during Thursday night's Europa League clash between the two clubs.
As the Reds took a 2-0 lead in the first leg of the Round of 16 tie, sections of the United support were heard singing songs about the 1989 tragedy, which saw 96 Liverpool fans lose their life.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore led the chorus of condemnation, tweeting: "Those songs speak only for the people singing them."
Liverpool Echo sports editor David Prentice was at the fixture and said the chants elicited an overwhelming feeling of disappointment from those in the press box, tweeting: "Manchester United fans let themselves down spectacularly with that chant. Plenty of saddened head shaking in the press box."
