Manchester United are on the brink of signing Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto.
The Daily Star Sunday says boss Louis van Gaal has had him watched several times this season and Muto comes personally recommended by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Former boss Fergie is a big fan of the Japan international and reckons his pace, eye for goal and ability to hold up the ball could boost Van Gaal's side.
United have found goals hard to come by this season and Van Gaal is desperate for more firepower.
Muto, who is under contract until 2019, has scored seven goals in 18 games so far.
