Man City midfielder Phillips 'must go to Euros'

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips will go to the European Championships with England if he is fit to play.

That is the view of ex-Leicester City star turned pundit Robbie Savage, who commented on the City fringe midfielder's form.

Phillips has been on the periphery at City since signing for them 18 months ago.

However, Savage does not believe he needs a move away to secure his Euros spot.

He told Planet Sport Bet: "Gareth Southgate has a lot of faith in Kalvin Phillips as he continues to pick him in the England squad despite him playing hardly any minutes for Manchester City. I still think he'll go to the Euros regardless of where he ends up after this transfer window.

“If I was him, I'd want to be playing Premier League football, so Newcastle looks a great option.

“The fanbase is unbelievable and they certainly need someone in that central midfield area. He needs to go where he thinks he'll play the most football to get himself in the best possible shape for the Euros and the best option right now to me looks like going to Newcastle."
