Joe Hart insists that Manchester City are a much wiser team now than they were four years ago.
In September 2012, City held a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League group stage.
Late goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo denied them a famous European victory in Spain but four years on, Hart is expecting a more focused performance in the semi-final second leg next week.
"We've learned a lot since that night. It was a tough game. It was certainly a busy one for me, especially," said the City keeper.
"A win would have been a pretty amazing result for us given the way we played. But when you're up against that sort of quality, it's never easy.
"Ronaldo and Benzema scored and as disappointing as it was, both goals were definitely avoidable. This year we've been a lot more confident away.
"It's the biggest Champions League game so far but I'm sure we will try to top that."
City head to Madrid for the second leg on Wednesday night following the 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
