Man City captain Gundogan: Lifting Champions League trophy in Istanbul is special

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan admits lifting the Champions League trophy in Istanbul is special.

Gundogan's family is from Turkey and many made the victory against Inter Milan last night.

He said, "It's particularly special for me to win here. My family are from Türkiye. My parents and grandparents live in Türkiye. I come here every year. Perhaps it was destiny for us to win here today.

"It's (the Treble) something that perhaps hasn't quite sunk in yet. It will do, in time. Only one English team has managed it in the past. We've obviously been aware of all the talk about the treble. We've still managed it. It shows quality to be able to focus on matters on the pitch and win the game. That was the most important thing. It's an unbelievably proud moment for us.

"We've had a special squad in previous years but it's felt particularly special this year. When I think about the days leading up to the game, we were full of confidence because of how we've behaved around each other in recent weeks, the team spirit on and off the pitch, and in training. I always had a positive feeling."
