Man City boss Guardiola hits back at Henry over Haaland doubts

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hit back at Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

The Frenchman claimed that City were a more predictable team with striker Erling Haaland this season.

Despite the Norway forward being the runaway top scorer in the Premier League, City have struggled for consistency all season.

Guardiola responded during yesterday's Champions League press conference: “...I would say that I understand exactly what Titi [Thierry Henry] wants to say the fact we play and we put the balls to Haaland. Being less predictable does not depend on Haaland it depends on the way we can make the process to arrive in different channels to the final third, not just with Erling.

“The people say: 'ah we concede a goal in the left side because Bernardo [Silva] is playing there' but the people don't realise and I understand it but the view is something like left-back defending that position, Bernardo help us do what we have done against Nottingham Forest.

“Without Bernardo it would not be possible to concede one counter attack, one or two actions at the end. The amount of control of game to put in the transitions, the create from right and left, the shots and here he arrive for many things. When the team [opponents] defend 5-3-2-1, so narrow, so we have to continue to try to get that process because I am 400% sure against Forest we were not predictable, absolutely not. But if you arrive here, here and fire the crosses or just pass to Erling that will be predictable.

“To be less predictable we need more runs from Kevin [De Bruyne], more runs from Gundogan, more runs from the wingers, we need more runs when we arrive in the final third but to arrive in the final third we need the process.

“I'm not stupid to say that Bernardo's a full-back but he can do it because he's so intelligent, he's so clever. One against one he is a really good defender. With the ball he helps us to do the special way we want to play. That's why I play him in that position it happened with Oleks Zinchenko in the past, we make 100 points with Fabian Delph. For the other ones the way we play in Europe and the Premier League we play really good. We have these type of players that make our game not predictable. Come on, we scored 60 goals, 26 goals, we are the team score more goals in the Premier League. Always we can do good things and with Erling as well."
