Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits Kyle Walker doesn't fit into his system.
The England defender has started only two of the last seven games.
"To play inside you have to make some movements, Kyle has other characteristics," Guardiola said.
"With this shape of three at the back and two in the middle, he cannot do it. It's a question of skills. In that position, he'll need time and we don't have time."
Asked how the England international can force his way back into the starting XI, Guardiola replied: "Be himself, train good. He can play in the three at the back. The reason why is tactical. It's not because we lost faith in Kyle."
