Mahrez double sinks PSG as Man City reach first ever Champions League final

Manchester City have reached their first Champions League final thanks to a 2-0 win over PSG at the Etihad on Tuesday.

The Premier League giants won the semi-final 4-1 on aggregate, signifying a significant moment for the Dubai-backed club.

They got there thanks to a ruthless display from Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian broke the deadlock 11 minutes into the first half by pouncing on the ball after Keylor Navas denied a shot from Kevin De Bruyne.

PSG had more on control of the first-half but did not manage to threaten in the final third.

A lingering deficit was then blown wide open when Mahrez tucked away his second of the game after a lethal counter attack.

Mauricio Pochettino's problems were compounded shortly after when Angel Di Maria stupidly got himself sent off for a kick on Fernandinho.

From there, the Parisians knew the tie was over and were perhaps lucky to keep 10 men on the field.

The final whistle sparked celebrations from the team in blue, who have lifted the monkey off their backs by reaching the club's first ever European Cup/Champions League final.

The moment was also vindication for Pep Guardiola, reaching his first final since his time with Barcelona.

Whilst the plaudits of those Barca wins were handed to Lionel Messi, Andreas Iniesta and the like, there is no denying Pep has moulded one of Europe's best teams and they will now deservedly play for Europe's biggest knockout prize.

Guardiola's side will meet either Real Madrid or Chelsea, who play in London on Wednesday with the tie poised at 1-1.
