LOAN WATCH: Liverpool attacker Wilson bags brace in Derby draw

In an ultimately disappointing 3-3 draw with Brentford on the weekend, Derby County's talented attacker and Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson bagged an impressive brace in his best attempts to win his team the three points.

The 22 year-old free-kick specialist has been a mainstay in the black and white this season, where he has featured both on the left and right wing as well as playing centrally in an attacking midfield role.

On Saturday afternoon at Griffin Park, Derby's number 7 lined up on the right wing ready to wreak havoc upon the Brentford defence. And wreak havoc Wilson did, as in the 13th minute he received the ball from an outside-of-the-boot Tom Lawrence pass.

With the ball bouncing, he took one touch on the edge of the area and then powered home the bobbling ball low and hard past Luke Daniels into the bottom right corner. A technically impressive finish with his strong left foot, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. With the scores tied at 2-2 late in the second half, Wilson thought he had won the game when he was sent through on goal in the 78th minute. Drifting in behind the back four, Wilson was found by a Fikayo Tomori through ball where the winger took one touch to centre the ball and then curled the ball to the keeper's right, finessing the elevated strike into the back of the net with composure and poise.

At 3-2 it looked like all three points where headed back to Pride Park stadium, only for the party to be spoiled by a Said Benrahma equaliser, much to the delight of the home fans.

Speaking after the game, Derby's disgruntled manager Frank Lampard spoke of Wilson's goals stating: "(They were) great finishes, very clinical the first, and I was right behind the second, it was a really good run...the first touch was class and it set him up for a really good finish".

Wilson now has 14 goals for Derby this season, however it was his first goal for the club since the 19th of January, ending a 12 game scoring drought. After the game Wilson noted: "It's been a while without one (a goal), I've been (hard) on myself recently, I think since the turn of the year I've only got one (goal), so I've been desperate to get on the scoresheet and assist a few more as well, but as long as the team is winning...I'm happy". When asked if the goals where quality goals, Wilson casually replied: "Ye(s) they were...we pressed it well up the pitch to give me the opportunity to score".

With 7 games left and sitting in 7th position, Derby will continue to look to the likes of Wilson in their bid for a promotion play-off spot, as the Wales international himself looks to continue his impressive form in order to catch the attention of parent club Liverpool.

Derby County will face off against Blackburn Rovers @Ewood Park, Tuesday April 9th 7:45pm.
