Liverpool was only club left for Klopp says Mainz chief

Mainz chief Christian Heidel has revealed that Liverpool was the only club in England that Jurgen Klopp wanted to join.

Klopp was recently appointed as manager of Liverpool and many feel that the Reds being able to attract the German can be considered a huge coup for the club.

However, Mainz general manager Heidel has revealed that Klopp only had his heart set on a move to Liverpool and added that the 48-year old was enticed to Anfield by the city's emotional attachment to the club.

Speaking to LFC TV, Heidel said: "If you've worked in Mainz before, then in Dortmund, then maybe Liverpool is the only club left to coach. There are many, many great emotions, that's what Kloppo needs and I think that's part of the reason he chose to go there.

"I think everyone knows he's an exceptionally good coach. We had great success at Mainz under him, his story with Dortmund is probably known all over the world.

"That's why Liverpool can be excited about someone who will give everything to make them better as a football team."
