England's U21 team have beaten Azerbaijan 2-0 in their 2013 UEFA Championships play-off to go top of Group Eight.
The Young Lions were served well by Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey who scored his side's first goal in Baku in the 28th minute before setting up Steven Caulker for the second with seven minutes remaining.
The win put Stuart Pearce's outfit five points clear of second-placed Norway, who they face in their final group match on Monday, meaning they have all but qualified for the tournament proper to be held in Israel in June next year.
