Liverpool midfielder Jones delighted with goalscoring performance: I don't always speak about myself...

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones felt they proved their quality for victory over Newcastle United.

Jones struck in the 4-1 win this week.

"There have been games in the past where we've had all the ball, dominated, had loads and loads of shots but we don't score as much," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"That was a game where the whole of the team was on fire. We'd give away the ball and we'd counter-press, we'd win it back, we'd attack, we'd shoot.

"We wore them down in the end. They're a very, very good team but we showed today the quality we've got in the whole team. Fantastic all round."

Of his performance, Jones also said: "I was happy. I don't always like to speak about myself, I like to speak about the team, but I think even if I didn't score it was a good performance. But I scored and we won as well, so overall it was a good performance.

"It was a tight game, I was thinking, 'Don't tell me it's one of those games!' I'd had four shots I think, the team had had 10-plus. We had all of the ball, were taking shots, but we couldn't score.

"So it [his celebration] was relief as well. It felt good, but then we let them in the game as well a little bit. But we came out on top, which is the most important thing."
