Liverpool looking forward to making history in Melbourne

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre says the famous club is excited about making history in Australia.

The Reds are in Melbourne preparing for Wednesday night's friendly with the Melbourne Victory with a crowd in excess of 95,000 expected at the MCG.

Ayre, who spoke at a press conference alongside manager Brendan Rodgers at the Grand Hyatt on Monday, said the Merseyside club were extremely enthusiastic about the predicted success of the event.

"It's been a fantastic welcome and hopefully we will make some history this week for Liverpool when we play in front of what I think will be the biggest crowd the Liverpool Football Club's played in front of," he said.

"We are very happy to be here and everybody is very excited about the game on Wednesday and we look forward to doing everything this week while we are here like meeting a lot of our fans etc."

Liverpool have brought with them a very strong squad for the Victory clash including skipper Steven Gerrard, star striker Luis Suarez and new signings Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet.
