Liverpool hero John Aldridge insists Everton have nothing to complain about regarding the officiating for Saturday's derby defeat.

Everton felt aggrieved over several decisions in a game which saw Ashley Young sent off and Liverpool win a penalty via VAR. A red card escape for Ibrahima Konate also left the visitors fuming.

But Aldridge wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "I am confused by the Everton fans suggesting they were robbed by the referee during Saturday's Merseyside derby.

"The only decision that went against Everton was Konate not being shown a second yellow card and, yes, he should have been sent off. The referee made a mistake there, but don't forget he made a bad error with the penalty we received. It had to go to VAR to even be awarded despite being as clear as day.

"A lot of people have been suggesting decisions went the way of Liverpool because of all the noise made by the club on the back of Luis Diaz's disallowed goal at Tottenham Hotspur last month. If that was the case, why didn't Craig Pawson give us a penalty for the Michael Keane handball?

"I could see it from 200 yards away up in the stands, doing the commentary. Everyone in the stadium saw it, but the referee didn't? It was only approved after a VAR review, which quashes that argument being put forward by Evertonians."
