Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher says the decision to allow Roberto Firmino to run down his contract and leave is the right call.

The 31-year-old forward is set to leave the Merseyside club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Brazil international is in his eighth year at Anfield, but has made just five appearances since scoring his last goal on November 12.

Carragher, 45, tweeted: "If the reports about Firmino leaving at the end of the season are true, I do think it's best for all parties.

"He's a Liverpool great & will be remembered for being part of one of the best front three's we've seen."
