Liverpool chief Moore: I've fought null-and-void-asterisk-hashtag brigade for 3 months!

Liverpool chief Peter Moore admits they faced a battle against many rival Premier League clubs wishing to abandon the season.

The Reds were just two wins away from clinching the title when football across Europe was suspended in March due to the spread of the coronavirus.

It initially seemed that the Merseyside club's 25-point lead at the summit might count for nothing, with the possibility of the campaign being cancelled entirely raised by a number of stakeholders.

"If you have walked in my shoes the last three months, it has been incessant," Moore said. "Meetings, fighting the null-and-void brigade, the curtailment, the points-per-game, asterisk brigade and the hashtag-tainted-title brigade - and we have finally got football back!

"And we're starting to see some cracking games now. West Ham at Chelsea the other night was a great game and Manchester United played well at Brighton, I am enjoying watching football again.

"If you had asked me that three months ago, I would have said I am not sure. But we've worked so hard at this football club.

"A year from now, I hope we are back to normal and 20 years from now you're telling your grandkids 'you don't remember the coronavirus!'

"But in all seriousness, we've got to buckle down. What we don't want is in two weeks to hear from the health authorities that we have got a second spike."
