Liverpool chief Edwards spent 12 months on Alisson deal

Liverpool football chief Michael Edwards spend 12 months working on bringing Alisson to Anfield almost two summers ago.

Goal says Edwards spent a year trying to convince Alisson, then of Roma, to join the Reds over Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Both clubs were keen on signing Alisson and Liverpool even thought he was heading to Chelsea at one point.

It was the prospect of working with Jurgen Klopp though, that saw him choose Merseyside over west London or the Spanish capital.

Chelsea ended up breaking the world record for a goalkeeper again shortly after Alisson joined Liverpool, by signing Kepa Arrizabalaga for £71m from Athletic Club.
