Leicester new boy Nampalys Mendy: My reasons for joining…

Nampalys Mendy has explained his reasons for opting to join Leicester City.

The 24-year-old midfielder joined the Foxes from French club Nice in a £13million deal on Sunday and is looking forward to getting started with the reigning Premier League champions.

Mendy, who has played down suggestions he has been signed to replace N'Golo Kante, also sees his move to the King Power Stadium as the perfect chance to test himself in the Champions League while also pushing himself forward for France national team selection.

"I am joining a team in every sense. I don't ask myself questions 'If I am coming to replace Kante' or anything else. I am coming to play, to earn my place," he told The Sun.

"My ambition is to break into the France national team. And now I have the opportunity to play in the Champions League. It was a decisive factor when I opted to come to Leicester.

"What I like about Leicester is that they are a real team.

"They play together and for each other. There is a solidarity and that is why they won the title. It was big news all over the world when they won the title and in France, too.

"I am very proud they came in for me. I am joining the champions of England, how can you not feel proud?"
