Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is warming to a January move to Newcastle United.

Newcastle will be encouraged to go back in for Maddison once the January transfer window opens.

Maddison was heavily linked with Newcastle in the summer, as the north east club had two bids rejected for the attacking midfielder. After cooling their interest once it became apparent the clubs were miles apart in their valuations, the Magpies could be back in.

Chronicle Live says Newcastle will have Maddison "punted their way" in the new year ahead of a potential move to join Eddie Howe's squad.

The likes of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope are all said to have told Maddison about the "exciting project" being built up in Newcastle.
